5 year project! Handmade, no machine stitching.

This multi-media quilt /tapestry/wall panel measures 54″ x 90″ and truly is one of my favorite pieces that I have done.  The tapestry/quilt, begun around 1998-2000, was inspired by the book “ELIZABETHAN TREASURES- The Hardwick Hall Textiles.”  A very important and personal piece. I studied Elizabeth I in depths about 10+ years ago and this piece is an ode to the incredible craftmanship of the Elizabethan artisan and a celebration of those motifs.

The image is of Elizabeth Tudor at her coronation. In her hand she holds a book containing embroidery studies of Mary Queen of Scots to comment on their relationship.

The quilt is in three layers and the batting is cotton.  I have purposely left the right bottom half “un-finished” with a needle inserted into the embroidery to maintain the relationship to history.

Semper Eadem ("Ever the same")

The back is exposed to purposely show the stitching.
